Year 3 Hub
This week in Year 3:
Spring has sprung!
In English, we have continued our new class books Big Blue Whale and This Morning I Met a Whale. With our focus on sentence types, the children have been writing factual paragraphs using exclamation sentences. We have also been looking at comprehension style texts and questions as this is a key skill to have in KS2.
In Maths, we have been continuing our topic of Fractions and have been looking at fractions using a number line and a scale and we have started to notice that some fractions represent the same thing. Using pizzas as an example, the children can now recognise and compare the different fractions by size.
Our highlight this week has been a fantastic school trip to Kew Gardens on Tuesday.
The perfect weather and wonderful behaviour from all the children made this trip an absolute delight for both the members of staff and the parent helpers who very kindly accompanied us. As well as visiting key areas of the Gardens such as the Palm House, the Hive and the Princess Of Wales Conservatory, the pupils took part in a Rainforest workshop where they learnt about what plants would be useful to use if they ever found themselves stranded in a rainforest. Our workshop leader Michelle was fascinating and the pupils enjoyed learning about the Toothbrush Plant and what uses a papaya has. We finished off the day with a visit to the Marianne North Art Gallery which the pupils really enjoyed and finally (just in case we hadn't done enough steps for the day, we braved the Treetop Walkway before heading back to school. My pedometer read 14,000+ steps so we were all very tired from a wonderful day out. Please enjoy these pictures from our fabulous day.
A couple of small notes:
- There will be a parent Drop In next Wednesday 26th March from 8:45-9:15 where the pupils will have the opportunity to share their books and their work with you.
- It's Year 3's assembly next Thursday 27th March! We hope you will be able to join us. We've sent a Parent Mail asking if the children can come in wearing a black top (navy would also be ok).
